昨日、友達に微妙って英語でなんていうのと聞かれました。
まず、微妙はとても日本っぽい言葉で、絶対に英語は適切な訳がないなと思いました。
でも、その後、「iffy」 っていう英語を思い出した。 やっぱり、それは微妙と似ているなと思いました。
例えば
それはちょっと微妙だね。＝ That’s kind of iffy.
辞書によると「iffy」には「doubtful」、「questionable」あるいは「full of unresolved points or questions」という意味があります。
Iffy はif とy を組み合わせて、100年前に作られた言葉です。 日本語だったら、「もしっぽい」 という感じかもしれません。 面白いでしょう。
微妙な状態 an iffy situation

iffyは、造語ということで英語らしくなさが含まれるため、単語としてはきちんと意味のある微妙をボンヤリ使う日本人のビミョーに似た感覚を覚えます。もしっぽい、という言葉と並んで使う機会を探してみようと思います。

‘微妙’ in Japanese is a phrase which is used by some people who is kind of iffy.
And,there is no word ‘もしっぽい’in Japanese.
‘Are you alright? Have you lost mind?’
If people around us heard those words,they will have responded so.
We’ve never heard it from anybody untill now.
I think you can’t understand its foolish nuance.
But,I know how different yours nuance from its nuance. I’d like to just tell you that its nuance is not ‘a delicate balance’ in actually.
Anyways,it’s better to be able to understand a phrase ‘make a balance enquiry’ to make sure ‘ the available balance’ in actually.
