初めまして、現在日本の大学院で英語音声学を勉強している、中学校の英語教師です。
音声学の授業で、最近のアメリカ（中西部）英語ではcaughtをcotと同じように発音するようになって来たことを学びました。LPDにも、アメリカの発音として表記されています。オーストラリアでも最近の若者はcotのように発音するそうです。
Lukeさんは英米のハーフと言うことですが、発音をお聞きしてイギリス発音をされているという印象を受けました。
イギリスでは、まだcaughtをcotと同じように発音することはありませんか？
イギリスにも色々な方言があるので、一言では言えないと思いますが、Lukeさんの住んでいた地域では、いかがでしょうか？

I’m an English teacher at Japanese Junior High School studying English phonetics in Postgraduate school.
I have just learned that the pronunciation of ‘caught’ is changing to the same one of ‘cot’ in the US, especially in the Mid western area.
I recognized that your English is British English.
I would like to ask you about the pronunciation of the word in British English.
Are there some changes in pronunciation of ‘caught’ in your area?
I’m sorry if you are not from Britain, but I would also like to know how the people around you pronounce the word these days wherever you are from.

I generally speak British English. I think that most people in Britain pronounce “caught” like me, but it is hard to say. I think that in Scotland, the pronunciation is different. They say “caught” in a more clipped way.
