「まま」という日本語は、何種類かの英語で言い表すことが出来ます。
Keep and Continue
まず、「keep」と「continue」という英語を見ましょう。「Keep」は「続く」と似ている英語で、よく「ing」動詞の前に置きます。
「Keep」と似ている動詞の「continue」は対照的によくto動詞と組み合わせられます。 Keepよりcontinueはもう少しフォーマルなニュアンスを持っています。
強い`K` の音がある短い「keep」 は「continue」 より強い感じがします。
If you keep making such excellent food, I’m going to get fat.
If you continue to make such excellent food, I’m going to get fat.このまま素晴らしい料理を作り続けたら、俺は太るぞ。
Keep at it!
諦めずに続けろ！
（この場合continueは使えません）
If you keep doing that, I’m going to get angry.
If you continue doing that, I’m going to get angry.

「I continued to wear my coat. この場合はcontinuedがあまり使われませんので、 keptを使ったほうがよいです。」
Remain
さて、次はremain という英語です。 Remainは「名詞」のままという構成を使いたい時はぴったりです。
remain a mystery
いまだ謎のままである
remain unsolved
不明のまま
remain inactive
不活性のまま
ところで、Remainは動詞だということを覚えておいてください。 話す時は、どうやってremainを使うのでしょうか？
まずは、remain はよく未来系と関わっているのを覚えておいてください。
例えば、
I’m afraid it will remain a mystery forever.
残念ですが、それは一生謎のままとなるでしょう。
「蛇足ですが、foreverをremain の前に置いて「I’m afraid that will forever remain a mystery.」とすると、文章を劇的に表現出来ます。」
To this day, it remains locked up in the box.
今に至るまで、そのまま、鍵を掛けられた箱の中に置いてあって鍵を掛けられて。
At This Rate
At this rate には文頭に置く表現です。 At this rate は「これがそのまま続く」という意味があります。忘れてはいけない重要なことは、
この言い回しはほとんどネガティブな文章にしか使われません。
At this rate, we’ll probably get fired.
このままだと、私たちは首になるだろう。
At this rate, you’ll never get married.
このままだと、（この調子だと）あなたは結婚しないよ
最後はleave という英語です。 「何々をそのままにしておく、ほうっておく」はleaveのいくつかの意味の一つです。
Leave it as it is.
そのままにしておいてください！
Leave him be.
彼をそのままにしておけ。 彼をそっとしておく。
The door was left open.
ドアは開いたままだった。

I often use one more word that is similar to those words.
It’s ” maintain “.
・to continue to have
・to keep in existence
(E.g.) ” I maintain my bank account. ”
・not allow to become less
(E.g.) ” I maintain the balance in my account. ”
・ to keep something in good condition by checking it and repairing it if necessary
(E.g.) ” I accessed my records to maintain the information. ”
For example,” maintain equipment ” does not mean ” keep ” or ” continue “.
The following examples are the same meaning as previous one:
・maintain a road
・maintain records
・maintain a computerized system
・maintain a tickler system
