日本と同じように、英語圏の国にも自動販売機が沢山あります。しかし日本と違う点は、故障している機械が沢山あるということです。故障した自動販売機の画面には、LEDライトで「this machine is out or order」というメッセージが流れています。この場合の「out of order」は「壊れている」という意味になります。

しかし、「out of order」を人に対して使う時は、「度を超えている」というような意味になります。誰かがルールに従わない時や失礼なことをした時に「out of order」を使うので、例えば、自分の子供が全然言う事を聞かない時には、「you are out of order」と言って叱ったりします。
Hey, you’re out of order. You shouldn’t say things like that.
ほら、ちょっと度が過ぎてるよ。そういうことは言っちゃいけません。
そして更に「out of order」は、何か順番などがバラバラになった時に使います。ちなみにこの場合の「out of order」の反対語は「in order」です。
